Racing has been a part of the Sweet name for three generations. Brent’s late grandfather, Bill Sr. was a 2 time track champion at the Waterford Speedbowl in 1967 and 1968 in the Daredevil division. Brent’s father, Bill Jr. raced Street Stocks at the same shoreline oval in the mid 80’s. Now, everything comes full circle, with Brent competing at the same track that holds so much history for the family.

Brent is currently entering his fifth season in the SK Modified division. After running a part time schedule for the past five seasons, the team looks to make a full time effott in 2016. But Brent’s racing career goes back farther than Waterford, back to a city that is familiar to the family.

At age 8, Brent started racing go karts at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. After 2 years at the road course, the team decided to venture into oval racing, calling Poughkeepsie Speedway in New York their home track. At the end of the season, Bill Jr. asked Brent what he wanted to do. Keep racing road courses or move to ovals? The answer came soon thereafter and the rest, as they say, is history. Brent would go on to win 2 track titles at Poughkeepsie, at the same time just getting his feet wet with touring series. From 2004 to 2006, Brent ran the Northeast Pavement Series, which raced at tracks in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. Finishing 9th and 3rd in 2004 and 2005, respectively, Brent went on to win the championship in 2006, his biggest accomplishment in kart racing.

The next few years saw the team purchase a car from longtime family friend Bob Horn, and piece by piece put the car together. The team made their debut in 2010 in the final race of the season, finishing a respectable 14th. 2011 would turn out to be a learning year for Brent, notching his first top 10 of the season just before a wreck sidelined the team for the remainder of the year.
